The Adventures of April

We shall not cease from exploration - And the end of all our exploring - Will be to arrive where we started - And know the place for the first time. -- T.S. Eliot

How did I get here?

I was watching this weird set of videos on a local cable channel when the video for Talking Heads "Once in a Lifetime" came on. I've never seen the video but it's one of my favorite songs of all time. I'd love to learn these wicked dance moves!

Blessed Be Your Name

The lyrics of this song have a special meaning to me this year... I feel like it's been a year of giving and taking away, of abundance and wilderness, but still God is good.

Blessed Be Your Name
In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name

Blessed Be Your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed Be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's 'all as it should be'
Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name

Not very surprising.

I took the 43 Things Personality Quiz and found out I'm an
Extroverted Organized Self-Improver

But I like the idea of a book that helps me make lists! Because April loves lists.

Halloween

This year I had an awesome Halloween party. I was inspired by my great new house and my own costume (see below). About fifty friends from work, church, and volunteering came. There were even a few people that wandered in from the street - that was a bit strange. Only a few people weren't brave enough to wear costumes! Otherwise, I was impressed to see the creativity of my friends.

We ate, we drank, we danced, we had a costume contest, we bobbed for apples, all until the wee hours of the morning. It was a highlight to my otherwise dismal fall. Enjoy the photos!

Sarah Palin Bobs for Apples

Photos from top to bottom: Me rocking it out as Sarah Palin, complete with a $150,000 price tag on my jacket, an anti-earth button, a PALIN-mccain button and copious amounts of lip liner; roommates; John and Marilyn are sickos; Laura was the lady from Columbia Pictures; dry ice never ceases to amaze; costume contest where Mimo won with the big fish head; Matt and Katie as the couple from Juno - costume contest runner-ups!; friends from church; more friends from church who are Arrested Development fans!; this guy really wanted a picture with me on my bed and it was even creepier than it sounds.
